This glaze combination really demonstrates the whim of the kiln. Despite all my efforts to control the end result, some glazes are very unpredictable and sometimes odd things occur. The splotchy red glaze is applied over the entire outside of the bowl in even coats. This glaze tends to produce the redish color almost randomly and is usually less intense the thicker the glaze coat. But beyond this general rule, the result varies dramatically from firing to firing. Sometimes, the result really works, a hint of real wabi-sabi. And other times---well, other times, it doesn't !
